Haden, Sr., George William (87)
George W. Haden, Sr., born in Detroit, April 7, 1922, son of Willie and George Haden. Entered into eternal glory on Feb. 22, 2010 at Hospice Unit of the VA Medical Center at the age of 87 years.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Margaret Haden of Lexington, four children: George Jr. (Phyllis), Betty Jo (Haden) Stevens, James Robert “Bob” (Toni Ann) and Connie (Haden) White (David); 12 grandchildren and and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was a veteran of WW II, serving in the 149th Army Infantry. He was a sheet-metal mechanic for several companies, including Kemmons Wilson for whom he supervised the ventilation systems of several hotels in the Caribbean.
Mr. Haden was active in the Christian Church throughout his life; he served as an elder at Maxwell St. Christian Church; and elder and Bible School superintendent at Northern Heights Christian Church.
Mr. Haden also served as Scoutmaster for the Boy scouts of America.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Joe Haden, Detroit MI and two sisters, Marie Myers and Roberta Walker, both of Jacksonville, FL.
With a loving and generous Spirit and a unique sense of humor he brought joy to everyone who met him.
Memorial Celebration is on March 14, 4:00 pm at Northeast Christian Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Building Fund, Northeast Christian Church.
