"Annually the Bluegrass Military Affairs Coalition (BMAC) facilitiates Veterans Appreciation Week. The events provide the public with multiple opportunities to honor and express their appreciation to living veterans, remember the missing, commemorate the dead and recognize all who today bear arms to defend our Constitution, country and freedom.
Veterans Appreciation Week

Community Veterans Day Dinner
On 11 NOV 2009, Veterans Day, Milward Funeral Directors volunteered at the Community Veterans Day Dinner presented by the Bluegrass Military Affairs Coalition at Porter Memorial Baptist Church. All Veterans of the United States Armed Forces were invited to enjoy a delicious FREE meal with gratitude for their service and sacrifice.
Community Veterans Day Observance
On November 11, 2009, Milward Funeral Directors participated in the Community Veterans Day Observance at Porter Memorial Baptist Church. The public was invited to recognize and honor veterans at the annual Community Veterans Day Observance presented by the
Bluegrass Military Affairs Coalition.
The featured presentation was made by Lieutenant Colonel Anthony G. Dotson, U.S. Army (Ret), Coordinator of the University of Kentucky Veterans Resource Center and G.I. Bill Student Vet of OEF and OIF. A patriotic concert was performed by Porter Memorial Baptist Church Choir. The Observance emcee was Sam Dick, News Anchor on WKYT Channel 27, Lexington.
Veterans were encouraged to wear medals/ribbons to this event, by request of the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Currently serving military members are requested to come in uniform of the day.
The Community Veterans Day Observance is presented annually by BMAC. BMAC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit tax exempt, non-sectarian, non-partisan civilian organization of patriotic individuals, businesses, government entities, all branches of the United States military and veterans. Its purpose is to promote the awareness of and educate the public about the armed forces of the United States of America and their contributions to our safety, the preservations of our freedoms and their state of readiness.
