Martha Hager (Burgess) Hall

Martha Hager (Burgess) Hall passed away on Maundy Thursday, April 1, 2021.
She was the daughter of the late Otis and Beulah Burton Hager.
Martha attended Jessamine County Schools and graduated.
Martha was active member of the Nicholasville Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, sang in the choir and was in a woman’s missionary group.
As a resident of Fayette County, she was a member of North View Baptist Church, Ashland Avenue Baptist Church and Clays Mill Baptist Church where she had many friends. She loved the Lord with all her heart and soul. God was her first priority.
Martha worked in retail sales where she met one of her best friends, Gracie Barnes, (deceased), also at the Army Depot as an Administrative Assistant.
Martha was an avid gardener and had a green thumb for each plant she planted or touched. Martha played the guitar, banjo, organ and mandolin by ear. She spent time in nursing homes singing to the residence.
Although she rarely admitted, she enjoyed watching and feeding the four colony cats who visited each morning and night. She would watch the cats from her window and laugh. Those cats loved her so much and looked forward to her every morning and evening.
Martha is preceded in death by her husband Gillispie C. Hall of 37 years.
She is also preceded in death by her husband Bernard of almost 20 years.
Martha is survived by one daughter, Mary Jo Hall, William (Bill) Sutter and described Bill as her son as well.
Martha has 6 sisters Juanita Jones (deceased), twin, Mary Pickett of Harrodsburg, KY, Bess Masters, Doris Goins and Lida Newby all of Lexington, KY and Shelli Wessler of Cleveland OH. Martha has 1 nephew, six nieces, was a great aunt and a great-great aunt.
Her marriage to Bernard Burgess brought an extended family of Robert Burgess (Rosa) and Judy Burgess-May (John) and their children and grandchildren.
Visitation will be on Thursday, April 8, 2021 from 10:00am -11:00am at Milward Funeral Home, 391 Southland Dr., Lexington, KY., with the Funeral Service beginning at 11:00am.
Interment will be at Bluegrass Memorial Gardens in Nicholasville, Kentucky.
She will forever be missed by her daughter and “son” in law, Bill.
