Mary Mazzei Waugh, widow of Russell H. Waugh, Jr. died on June 4, 2021.  She was born in Shinnston, W.Va., the daughter of Jennie and Frank Mazzei.  She received her B.S. degree from Seton Hill College in Greensburg, Pa. and her master’s degree from W.Va. University.  She taught school in Harrison County, W.Va. for several years before her marriage to Russell H. Waugh, Jr.  They lived in Charleston, W.Va. before moving to Ashland, Ky. and then to Lexington, Ky., where she has lived for 59 years.


She is survived by her three sons, Russell III, his wife Gail, F. James, his wife Jayne and Joseph David Waugh; four grandchildren, James Waugh, his wife Jamie, Adam Waugh, Erin Stevens and Courtney, her husband Hunter; four great-granddaughters, Maggie Waugh and Tabytha, Robyn and Meredith Stevens and one great-great-grandson Liam Walker.


Russ died in 1982.  Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; her sister Anne Dolva and five brothers, Joseph, Vincent, James, Frank and David Mazzei.


A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 12th at 11am at Milward-Man O’ War, 1509 Trent Boulevard, Lexington 40515.
