Candice Joy “Candy” Deininger, 68, of Lexington passed away peacefully, surrounded by friends, on Thursday, July 29, 2021 after a brief illness. She was born to the late Albert Otto Deininger and Ruth Elizabeth (nee Goodall) Deininger on June 12, 1953 in Barre, Vermont.
Candy graduated from Montpelier High School in Vermont and earned her B.A. in Organizational Management from Midway College. She was a supervisor for many years at KY American Water Company, beginning her career there in 1989. In 2004, she began working for Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government as Revenue Supervisor, retiring in 2015.
She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Montpelier as well as the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW Post 792.
Candy was a very caring, loving and generous sister and friend who always took time to help others. She was a good listener, loved to converse and demonstrated a wicked sense of humor. Well-practiced in lighting up a room at parties, Candy’s signature laugh would draw looks of wonder and amazement, bringing smiles and laughter to everyone. She had an incredible zest for life. Candy had a green thumb and enjoyed sharing flowers from her garden, especially bountiful, fragrant peonies. She loved to cook, watch cooking shows and try new recipes for her friends. Christmas was her favorite time of year as she decorated every room in her house and never had fewer than three trees. Candy had an expansive ornament collection and each ornament had special meaning to her. She enjoyed entertaining any time of the year, but Christmas was her favorite. Candy loved animals, but especially her kitties who lived the good life. Musically talented, she had perfect pitch. Candy enjoyed traveling and experiencing new adventures. Traveling to Spain was one of her most memorable trips.
She is survived by two sisters, Deanna (Frederick) Rugo of No. Smithfield, Rhode Island and Sandra (Amerigo) Yacavoni of Northfield, Vermont; three nieces, three nephews, eight grandnieces and three grandnephews, as well as a host of cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister Carole Bonin.
A memorial service will be held on August 21, 2021 at 11:00 a.m., at Milward-Broadway, 159 N. Broadway, Lexington, KY 40507.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Lexington Humane Society are encouraged.
