Doris E. Lewis, 88, of Winchester, passed away peacefully while surrounded by her family in the late evening of Saturday, February 2, 2019. Doris was born in Flatwoods, Kentucky on September 28, 1930 to the late Andrew and Gladys (Riley) Bowe.  On July 16, 1953, she was wed to Richard Lewis. Together, they celebrated 55 years of marriage before his passing on November 15, 2008.

Doris was a past member of Southern Hills Methodist in Lexington. For a short time she worked in the gift shop at the Blue Grass Airport and met some of her best friends while employed there. She and her friends, Joyce Williams and Suzie Hendron, dubbed themselves “The Golden Girls”. Doris was a stylish and put-together kind of lady who loved listening to country music, traveling to Las Vegas and especially enjoyed spending time at the various beaches in Florida. Most of all, she was extremely devoted to her family. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren with all her heart and loved spending time with them immensely.

Doris is survived by her daughter, Jacqueline Lewis; step-son, Ashley Lewis; granddaughters, Abigail and Meredith Lewis; great-grandchildren, Isabelle Lee and Layla Garcia and nieces, Tami Brown and Jill Smith. She is also survived by her loving caregivers, Rachael Miller, Bridget Webb, Kayla Moore, Tracy Hollan, Dr. Cindy Atkins. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Hilton Bowe.

Family will receive friends for visitation on Wednesday, February 6th from 5:00 pm-7:00 pm at Milward – Man O’War, located at 1509 Trent Blvd., Lexington. Funeral service will follow at 7:00 pm with Rev. Jill Ruhl presiding.

Please except my condolences. May you find comfort in knowing that your dear one is safe in the memory of God, who will remember every detail about her and bring her back again. John 5:28, 29 gives this assurance.
