Jan was a graduate of Ohio University where she received her Bachelor’s degree. On February 10, 1979, Jan wed Dan Kearns and together they celebrated 42 years of marriage. She was an advertising executive at the Lexington Herald Leader until her retirement.

Jan was very active with a love of not only swimming and tennis, but also running. She was ever the optimist and full of positive energy and a light in her family’s lives. Jan was a huge supporter of her family including her grandchildren as she watched them grow and succeed. My heart is broken learning of Jan's passing. I got to know her through our work together at WVLK/K-93. Such a bubbly personality and a bounce in her step. We had fun times together, remembering our ski trip to Paoili with Diane Clark, and gathering at her house at the pool. She was always a ray of sunshine. Godspeed my friend Jan
