Nancy Gwendolyn Eller Nicklas passed away Saturday, September 4, 2021, at Baptist Health, Lexington of complications from chronic lung disease. She was born in Wilkes County, North Carolina on July 8, 1937 to Gwyn and Ola Staley Eller who preceded her in death.  She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Wesley Thomas Nicklas. Survivors include three daughters: Celeste (David) McRae of Lexington, Wendy (Neil) Gluckman of Decatur, Georgia and Christy Nicklas (Jim Graves) of Washington, D.C. Gwen is survived by four grandchildren: Logan McRae, Madison McRae, Eric Gluckman and Emily Gluckman. A beloved brother, Colbert Eller and niece Melody Eller of North Wilkesboro, North Carolina survive her along with many cousins from the large Eller and Staley families.

She was a graduate of Millers Creek High School and received her bachelor’s degree from Appalachian State. She met Wes at Myrtle Beach while he was a soldier at Fort Bragg, NC. They married just days after he was discharged from the Army. Following her wedding, she moved away from her home state and was a resident of Lexington for 55 years. She was a dedicated member of Rosemont Baptist Church where she worked as a secretary and volunteered in the nursery. She enjoyed her Sunday school class and treasured the many friends she had at Rosemont. Gwen was a homemaker and devoted to her family. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, and they will miss her so much. She enjoyed beautiful flowers, vegetable gardening and kept busy canning the bounty of her garden. Gwen was in a ladies league at Southland Bowling Lanes for years and had won many awards.  She enjoyed traveling, especially to North Carolina to visit her family.

Funeral service will be at 2pm Thursday, September 9, 2021 at Milward-Southland, 391 Southland Drive with burial following in Blue Grass Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Rosemont Baptist Church 556 Rosemont Garden Lexington, Ky 40503.

Facial coverings will be required for those attending the service on Thursday.
