Mary Frances Howard, July 3, 1941 – September 3, 2021, was born in Pineville, KY where she attended nursing school before moving to Lexington. She worked as an LPN at the University of Kentucky until she retired after 30+ years.
Mary Frances was known by many names; Fran, Flossy, Sister, Aunt, Nanny and most importantly, Mom. She was a caregiver both by profession and by her nature; she was a second mom to many of Marcus’ friends throughout the years. She loved all animals, but especially her cats, dogs and the fish that live in the pond she dug herself. She also enjoyed crochet, sewing, gardening, fishing, searching for treasures at yard sales and watching the UK Wildcats play basketball.
She is survived by her son Marcus Howard of Lexington, KY; sister Kathy Howard Sams (John Gordon) of Pineville, KY; brothers Wendell R. Howard of Hickory, NC and Johnny B. Howard of Lenoir City, TN. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews, including her beloved Marina, and many lifelong friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Boyd Franklin and Edith Sizemore Howard; brother Gary Lynn Howard; sister Barbara Howard Renfro; and partner Rodney Holman.
A visitation for family and friends will be held at Milward’s on Southland Drive, Saturday, September 11, 2021 from 3-6pm.
