William "Bill" Coates Meeks, 61, passed away the morning of Friday, September 10, 2021. Bill was born in Corbin, Kentucky to the late Jack Fox Meeks and Rachel (Coates) Meeks on June 23, 1960.

Bill was a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University where he received a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing. While at Eastern, Bill was a member of Kappa Alpha Fraternity. Bill devoted most of his life to his career. He was employed for over 30 years with Begley Drug/Rite Aid Pharmacy, as store manager. Currently, Bill was employed by 5 Below, as Merchandising Manager.

Bill was a very caring, thoughtful and generous person, who would give someone the shirt off his back.  He had the love for real estate.   When Bill wasn’t working, he enjoyed visiting his mother, taking walks, reading, and every year looked forward to going to his favorite beach, Isle of Palms, SC, to visit his real good friend Kelle Bellamy, with his sister, Shelley.

Left to cherish his memory is his mother, Rachel Meeks; sister, Shelley (Bill) Maxwell, and brother, Thomas Meeks (Cheryl) and his beloved cat, Lilly.  He has three cousins Alan Coates, Diana Coates Holt and Amy Meeks Magruder. He was preceded in death by his father, Jack in 1980 and a nephew William Jack Maxwell.

Visitation for Bill will be from 9:00 am to 10:00 am, Tuesday, September 14th at Milward - Man O'War located at 1509 Trent Blvd., Lexington. Funeral service will begin at 10:00 am with Rev. Tommy Simpson officiating. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery in Corbin, KY at 2:00 pm.

In honor of his legacy, Bill’s family would like memorial donations directed to American Heart Association and Lexington Humane Society.

My sympathy goes out to Bill’s family. I knew Bill from the High YMCA. We are about the same age and both studied business administration. We talked about career paths and choices. He liked what he did. I’m so sorry he got sick. I always liked running in to him.
