Michael Adam Recio
Sunday 13th of July 1975 - Thursday 16th of September 2021
Michael Adam Recio, 46, of Lexington, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on September 16, 2021. Born July 13, 1975, Mike was raised in Ocala, Florida, where he joined the family business in the Thoroughbred racing and breeding industry. He graduated from the University of Louisville Horse Racing Industry Program in 2002, and began his career working client services for several Central Kentucky horse farms. After moving to Lexington, Mike met and married his wife, Nancy. Mike was a prominent consignor and bloodstock agent, founding South Point Sales and Rockbridge Bloodstock in 2014.
Mike was fiercely loyal in life, boundless in his love for family and friends and unrestrained in his quest to squeeze every ounce of joy in life. A consummate storyteller, Mike had the unique ability to draw many different types of people together and leave them all smiling and united in a moment of laughter. Mike’s departure from this world leaves many hurt and wanting, but also serves as a reminder of just how fragile life can be and that each day should be lived to the fullest.
While Mike loved the horse industry and his work, he took the greatest joy in spending time with his family, who he loved wholeheartedly. Mike’s favorite role was being a dad to his four-year-old twins. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Nancy, and his children, Wesley and Addison. He is also survived by his parents, Bill and Lynn Recio, of Ocala, Florida, his sister Katie Cauthen (Doug), a niece Campbell Cauthen of Lexington, Kentucky, and brother Gene Recio of Ocala, Florida.
The family would like to thank all the healthcare professionals for the compassionate care that they provided for Mike. They would also like to thank all of Mike's friends and
colleagues, and the entire Thoroughbred industry, for the outpouring of love and support during this time. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Old Friends Thoroughbred Retirement Facility, 1841 Paynes Depot Rd., Georgetown, KY 40324.
A celebration of Mike's life will be Friday, October 1, 2021 at the Thoroughbred club from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm.
I got to know Mike when I lived in Paris KY. I always thought he was such a nice person. He always had a smile on his face and such an outgoing kind personality. I'm so very sorry Nancy for your loss and I hope God gets you through such a terrible time. God Bless you and your beautiful children.
I and my partner Emmy Gaffney were clients of Mike’s for several years. Mike’s enthusiasm, guidance and sincere desire to help us succeed was invaluable and so appreciated. His joyful essence will remain in my heart forever. My deepest condolences to those he leaves behind.
