Alice A. Scully

Alice A. Scully, 89, passed away in the late evening of Monday, October 4, 2021. Alice was born in Freeport, Illinois to the late Clifford and Inez (Offenheiser) Buchanan on February 6, 1932.
Alice wed Martin J. Scully, Jr. on April 30th, 1954, and together, they celebrated 50 years of marriage until his passing in 2004. Throughout her life, Alice loved caring for and raising her children. She was a phenomenal homemaker who enjoyed drawing, painting and experimenting in the kitchen. From the late 1960s to mid-1970s, Alice was a professional portrait artist. She was also a voracious reader, often finishing a hundred books a year all the way through to the end of her life.
Left to cherish her memory are her children Judith Ann Gurnee, Mary Beth (Michael) Flynn and Martin Joseph (Miranda) Scully III; grandchildren Jalen Scully, Kwad Scully, Dock Flynn, Charlie Flynn, Caitlin Flynn, Ashley Flynn, Christian Flynn, Alyssa Flynn, Abby Flynn, Khloe Flynn, John Van Houten-Gurnee, David Walje and Allyson Walje Wright; several great-grandchildren; and her sister, Roberta (Jack) Weaver. In addition to her loving husband, Alice was preceded in death by her daughters, Kathryn Casteel and Carol Underwood, and son-in-law Jack Gurnee.
Visitation for Mrs. Scully will be from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm, Tuesday, October 12th at Milward – Broadway located at 159 N. Broadway. Funeral mass will be held 10:00 am on Wednesday, October 13th at St. Paul Catholic Church located at 425 W. Short St. with Fr. Danny Schwendeman presiding over service. Interment in Calvary Cemetery to follow.
Mask usage will be observed during funeral mass as directed by the Lexington Catholic Diocese.

Aunt Alice so enjoyed visiting people and I remember her sitting for hours on my Mom's back porch. She will be missed. Prayers and love for her sweet family
