Robert Garner, Sr, born October 13, 1939 to Matthew “Sonny” and Alice Alexander Garner who both preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death were his sister, Brenda Lee Hughes, and brothers, Steven Garner and Gregory Garner.
He departed this earth on Thursday, October 7, 2021 at the age of 81. Bob was a past member of the Lions Club and was a Kentucky Colonel and served his country while in the United States Air Force. He retired from IBM in 1991 after working in the Human Resources Department for many years. He also had been active in the thoroughbred racing and breeding industry for twenty plus years.
Bob turned his life over to Christ at an early age and was baptized at The First Baptist Church, Lexington, under the leadership of Rev. H.E. Nutter. He was active in church as a young man and loved teaching Sunday School.
He leaves to cherish his memories are his children, Michelle (Jerome) Bean, Robert “Bob” (Theresa) Garner, Jr and Ricardo “Rick” Garner; eleven grandchildren; Denetria Blanchard, Demetria Nichols, Brian (Lacey) Nichols, Brandon (Ashley) Nichols, Douglas Bean, Marcus Bean, Robert “Bobby” Garner, III, Brandi Garner, Breonna Garner, Takyia Garner, and Kenadi Burdette; and 13 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews; Monique Hughes, Lucy Hughes, Steven (Ashli) Wells, Danielle Wells, Tonya Wells, Sean (Katie) Garner, and Stephanie Garner, with several other nieces and nephews, and numerous great nieces and great nephews, a sister in law, Billie Bibbs-Garner and special friends, Clarence “Shug” Walker of Lexington, KY; Carolyn Wells of Louisville, KY and Betty Yancy, California; Helen Williams of North Las Vegas, and numerous other friends.
Visitation will be held Friday, October 15th from 11am - 12pm at Milward Funeral Director’s Man O’ War location at 1509 Trent Boulevard, Lexington, KY., service to follow at 12pm with interment in Camp Nelson National Cemetery in Nicholasville.
