For her many contributions, she received a number of recognitions including being named 1982 Lexington Woman of the Year; 1990 recipient of Lexington’s Aequum award for outstanding woman business person, and she was elected to the Kentucky Advertising Hall of Fame. She had been a lay reader in the Episcopal Church and was a member of Good Shepherd Episcopal Church. In her free time, Mary Ellen and Bob loved to travel, dote on their grandchildren and pets, and listen to music.

Mary Ellen is survived by her devoted husband, Bob; two step-daughters, Mary Diane Slone and Laura Slone Newsome (Brad) and her grandchildren who she loved dearly, Virginia Newsome-Travers (Zack), Drew Newsome, Mary Chun Slone, Kendal Burger, Marshall Burger, and her precious dog, Sadie.
