Eunice Ruth James Mills passed at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington, KY on Saturday, January 8, 2022 after a brief illness.  Eunice Mills was born on August 20, 1924 to Geneva Prillerman James and Robert "Jack" James in Garrison, West Virginia.

She spent her early years at her grandfather's farm in Tupper's Creek, West Virginia.  Upon reaching the ninth grade she moved to Charleston, WV with her aunt, Charlotte "Lottie" Morris, so she could complete high school.

After high school, she attended West Virginia State College where she completed her undergraduate degree in Accounting.  In November of 1946 she married Marvin D. Mills and they remained married for 71 years until his passing in 2018.

Early in her career she supported her husband's pursuit of his doctoral degree at New York University by working in accounting roles at the Julliard School of Music and the Internal Revenue Service in New York City.

After supporting her husband's goal of obtaining his doctoral degree, she focused on her higher education and earned her Master's Degree in Education from West Virginia University in 1961.  She began her elementary education career in St. Albans, West Virginia shortly thereafter and taught in the West Virginia school system until 1977.  That year, she moved to Murray, Kentucky to support her husband's new job as a professor at Murray State University.  She was immediately hired by the Murray City School System and taught fourth grade until her retirement in 1988.  During her primary teaching career, she raised three sons and completed 30 post-graduate hours.

After retirement from full-time employment, she and her husband moved to Hebron, Kentucky.  Her husband served as an adjunct professor at the University of Cincinnati and concurrently at the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), a branch of the CDC.  She continued to stay active as a substitute teacher in the public and parochial school systems of Boone and Kenton counties in northern Kentucky.

Upon retirement, the couple moved to Lexington in 1998.  She became active with the Southern Hills United Methodist Church women, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, P.E.O. and as a volunteer at the Good Samaritan Hospital Gift Shop.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Marvin D. Mills, Sr. in September 2018.

She is survived by her sons:  Marvin D. Mills, Jr. (Wanda) of Frederick, Maryland, Glenn P. Mills (Mary Linda) of Lexington, Kentucky, and Todd B. Mills (Pamela) of Scottsdale, Arizona; her grandchildren:  Jamie, Deidre, Marvin III, Paul and Mark and great-grandchildren:  Kayla, Nate, Michael, Brittany, Kate Ann and Emmy Grace, as well as a hos of friends and relatives.

A ceremony conducted by Delta Sigma Theta Sorority will be held on Tuesday, January 18, 2022 at 10:30 am, Milward-Southland and a visitation will be held from 12:00 pm until the funeral at 1:30 pm.   Entombment will be at Blue Grass Memorial Gardens.

Eunice was a resident at Cedarhurst and I had the pleasure of helping her. She was a joy to care for and I loved her dearly and will miss seeing her smiling face. I just wish I could have known her longer. Her son Glen is a super nice person and enjoyed seeing him when he would come to visit her. I send my thoughts and prayers to the family during this time of loss.
