January 10, 2022. She is survived by her

Upon
finishing her medical degree, residency, and fellowship in Pediatric and Adult
Neurology, JoAnne returned to Kentucky where she was interim Director of
Maternal and Child Health for six years.
During this time, she established a network of traveling clinics
focusing on child development problems and epilepsy. She became a professor at Meharry Medical College
and Vanderbilt University in Nashville TN.
Her abiding
love for Kentucky was developed in JoAnne’s formative years spent in a small
mining town in southern Kentucky, her beloved Packard. Everyone that knew JoAnne heard the many
stories she told about growing up in the mining camp and she extolled the “most
wonderful childhood” she had in Packard.
JoAnne
retired to Lexington, KY. She had a
unique faith in the goodness inherent in mankind, and abiding faith in her
religious beliefs, and a deep love for her family. Her generous spirit and beautiful soul will
continue to guide those who knew her well.
A brief
gathering will occur at Milward Funeral Directors Broadway location at noon
Thursday, January 20, with a graveside service at the Lexington Cemetery to
follow at 1:00 o’clock. Please visit

saysAs a volunteer in Friendship International, JoAnne taught women from all over the world to make teddy bears. She also told everyone about Packard. Her genuine love for all and that wonderful twinkle in her eyes made this world a sweeter place. We were all blessed to have known her.

saysMae Marie: So sorry about your sister, Joanne. She was a VERY nice lady and I enjoyed getting to know her as I did not know her when you, Homer, Pat Skinner and I use to play monopoly (by the hour) on your front porch on South Ashland. I do remember your Mom as she was always soooh jolly and happy! I met Joanne at Anchor Church and always enjoyed our chats/visits. She was one fine and caring lady! Carol Tracy Webb
