Dr. John Henry Scahill, 76, passed away
in the late evening of Tuesday, May 3, 2022. John was born September 20, 1945 and
raised in Brooklyn, New York to Irish born parents Michael and Margaret
(Maguire) Scahill.
John wed Kathleen O’Brien June 30,1984,
and together they celebrated just short of 38 years of marriage. In addition to
his wife Kathleen, he is survived by his children, Michael Scahill and Eileen
Scahill Gess (and Husband); his brothers Frank (Mary) Scahill and Jim
Scahill.
John was a decorated veteran and served
his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He graduated high
school in Brooklyn, NY, then went on to earn his Doctorate in Education from
the University of Kentucky, taught at several universities and retired as a Retirement
Officer from the Commonwealth of Kentucky State Government. John was an avid
reader, thinker, vegetable gardener and enjoyed a love of cooking.
Visitation for John will be Monday, May
9th from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm at Milward-Southland located at 391
Southland Drive, followed by a procession to Camp Nelson National Cemetery for
Interment with military honors at 2:30pm in Nicholasville, Kentucky.
