William
"Bill" George Burke, Jr., age 88, died on June 17, 2022. Bill was born on January 31, 1934 in St.
Louis, Missouri. He married Paula
Diviney on August 30, 1958. Since 1976,
Bill was a member of Newman Center Catholic Parish and sang in the church choir
there for many years.
In his
youth, Bill earned his Eagle Scout designation as a member of the Boy Scouts of
America. Bill was a graduate of Saint
Louis University before serving in the United States Air Force. His career as an electrical engineer spanned
several companies including IBM and Lexmark before retirement in 1999. A beloved husband, father and community
volunteer, Bill enjoyed raising his five boys and watching them become
successful in academics and sports. He
was involved in helping to form the Lexington Youth Soccer Association in its
infancy, and also served on the Headley Green Neighborhood Association Board of
Directors.
Preceded in
death by his parents, William and Alice Burke, sister Mary Carol Burke and
brothers Glennon Burke and Thomas Burke, Bill is survived by his sons William
Burke III, Stephen (Rhonda) Burke, Kevin (Jacquie) Burke, Thomas (Laura) Burke
, Christopher (Laura) Burke, nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Milward Funeral Directors are assisting with Mr. Burke’s service arrangements. Visitation will be from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, Wednesday, June 22nd at the Catholic Newman Center/Holy Spirit Parish located at 320 Rose Lane, Lexington. Mass will begin at 12:00 pm with Fr. Ronald Sagum presiding.
