Sheila Ann Kallay, passed away in Lexington, KY on September 10, 2022. Born and raised in Aurora, IL, Sheila was born on April 25, 1963 to Mary Faith (Guddendorf) and Edwin B. Lenert; she was a graduate of West Aurora High School (Class of 1982). Sheila married William Kallay of Aurora, IL in 1990. Together they welcomed two daughters, Katheryn (1991) and Koureteney (1994), who were the loves of her life. In 2011, Sheila went on to receive her Bachelor’s degree in Communications and Criminal Justice from Aurora University.
In 2016, Sheila followed her dream of relocating to the Bluegrass state. She settled in Lexington, KY where she pursued multiple dreams. She served as a paraeducator for Fayette County Public Schools for several years. Most recently, Sheila served at William Wells Brown as a paraeducator for students with special needs. Working at WWB was something that she treasured. She loved her Colt family!
Sheila was very passionate about helping others and protecting animals. She spent many of her years serving individuals with special needs and rescuing/fostering cats. Sheila named herself “The Crazy Cat Lady” and wore that proudly.
Sheila was such a strong woman. She was fierce, bold, strong-willed, selfless, and resilient. She was quick-witted and funny. Her smile and her laugh were infectious. When she loved you, she loved hard- there was no question how she felt about you. Sheila was a loving and devoted mother, Grammie, and friend. Time passed too soon. Her absence has left a hole for her loved ones that will never be filled.
Sheila is survived by her beloved daughters Katheryn Kallay and Koureteney Payne (Kallay), her ex-husband William (Bill) Kallay, her sons-in-law Dontilius Harston and Brandon Payne, her cherished grandsons Easton and Rowen, her granddog, Kassidee Jayd, and her cats.
She is preceded in death by both her paternal and maternal grandparents, father, Edwin B. Lenert, her sisters Mary Agnes and Colleen, and a menagerie of cats and dogs whom she cared for over the years.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, September 16, 2022, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Milward-Man O’ War, 1509 Trent Blvd. Lexington, KY.
Just last week Ms. Kallay reached out to me sending her condolences for the recent passing of my mother. I am so glad we crossed paths on Earth. May God bless your family and provide comfort during this time of bereavement.
