John McKinney born July 13, 1933 passed away on September 17, 2022 in Hermitage, TN. He was a son of the late Lewis “Mack” and Mildred Jones McKinney. John graduated from Henry Clay High School in 1952, served in the US Army from 1953-1955, and graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1959. He was Pharmaceutical Rep from 1959 until retiring in 1981. He was also a stockbroker from 1970-71. He enjoyed basketball, golf, bridge, boating, and most of all training quail and pheasant hunting dogs. 


John is survived by his sons Guy McKinney (wife Joi), son Brad McKinney (wife Peggy), and their mother Barbara Guy McKinney Rhoads; brother James P. McKinney (wife Connie); sister Nancy Mitchell; six grandsons, Travis and Matthew (Guy and Joi), Dakota, Lucas, Beau, and Keaton (Brad and Peggy); five nephews Garland, Greg, Scott, Brian, and Chad; and three nieces Debbie, Pam, and Glenda. He was preceded in death by his brother Ed (wife Betty); sister Mildred “Middy” McGhee (husband Johnny); Nancy’s husband Ted; and nephew John A. “Buzz” McGhee II.


Visitation will be from 5 to 8 pm on Thursday September 22, 2022 at Milward-Southland, 391 Southland Dr, Lexington, KY with funeral services conducted by the Reverend Dan Russell at 2:00 pm on Friday, September 23, 2022.  Burial will follow the service at the Lexington Cemetery. Pallbearers will be John’s grandson’s Travis, Matthew, Dakota, Lucas, Beau, and Keaton McKinney.
