Della Mae Bullens
Friday 6th of July 1934 - Sunday 18th of September 2022
Della Mae Bullens, 88, passed away Sunday, September 18, 2022 at Albert B. Chandler Hospital. A compassionate team of physicians, nurses, and staff cared for her during her short illness. Della Mae was born in Scaffold Cane, Kentucky to Addie Coffey and Joseph Bullens. She was a sister to Martha, Alice and Curtis. Della Mae was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother Curtis. She is survived by friends at Independent Opportunities, the team at New Vista, and her special friends Florence Barnie, Lajean Crosby, and Dana Royse.
Della Mae lived with and was cared for by her family for many years. She was very close with her mother before her death in 1986. She was cared for by her brother Curtis for several years until he passed away unexpectedly in 1991. This had a profound impact on her and led her to move to her longtime home with the Connections program. Those who knew Della Mae best describe her as a feisty woman who loved caring for her baby dolls. She considered most everyone a friend and would use sign language to make sure people knew who her friends were. In addition to her use of sign language, she could express so much with a quirk of her eyebrow and a wrinkle of her nose. She was quick to make her opinion known, and she was quick with a smile for those she cared for. Della Mae was cared for by many, including her friends and caregivers at Independent Opportunities, Latitude Artist Community and New Vista. Della Mae leaves behind a host of close friends and caregivers, who consider her part of their family.
Visitation for Della Mae will be from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm, Monday, September 26th at Milward – Man O’War located at 1509 Trent Blvd. Service will begin at 12:00 pm with interment in Blue Grass Memorial Gardens to follow.
