Doris Rupured McGinnis, 88, passed away on Thursday, April 4, 2019.  She was born to Arthur and Callie (Starns) Rupured in Lexington, KY.  She was a graduate of Henry Clay High School.  After meeting at IBM, where Doris was a receptionist and her future husband Gerard was an engineer, they attended the 1958 Kentucky Derby on their first date.  They were married in 1959 and were the proud parents of four children.  Her dream in life was to be a good wife and mother and she was truly loving and caring in those roles.

She worked as a retail associate at Fayette Mall, and was employed by Stewarts, Ayres and Dillards department stores over the years.

Singing was her talent, and she was a member of the Lexington Chorale for many years.

Her grandchildren knew her as “Mimi” and were blessed to spend many wonderful times with her.  She helped raise her grandchildren.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband Gerard McGinnis and several siblings, including Charles Rupert, Harold Rupured, Mildred Jobson, Arthur Rupured, Joann Patrick and Raymond Rupured.  She is survived by four children: Jean Marie (Dale) Massie, Monica McGinnis, Teresa (Jim) Wharton and Larry McGinnis; a sister, Geraldine Brown; a brother, Sam Rupured; four grandchildren: John, Christian and Elizabeth Massie and James Wharton; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Monday, April 8 from 5 PM to 8 PM at Milward Funeral Home on Southland Drive.  Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 9 at 12:30 PM at Mary Queen of the Holy Rosary Church.  Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.

Jean Marie and family. My sincere sympathy on the loss of your mother. I will always remember your mother's dry wit, her love for her family, and her generosity toward others, including my sister and me. She was a tremendous person. As we near the end of this Lenten season and move toward Easter, our belief in the resurrection assures me that Doris is in a much better place. Know that my love and prayers are with you in this difficult time.
