The Rev. Arlester Washington, 81, of Lexington and husband of Vonnett Williams

Washington passed away on April 9, 2019. He was born to the late Henry

Washington and Maggie Williams Washington on August 20, 1937 in Madisonville,

KY.

Rev. Washington was Pastor at Now Faith Worship Center in Lexington and

founder of Central Kentucky Mass Choir, serving as overseer for 29 years. His

family and his flock will miss him deeply. He is, however, in a better place, having

been made new again in heaven.

Rev. Washington was anointed as a child, playing piano and organ by ear since the

age of four. An accomplished athlete, he walked away from a potential career in

basketball, following his call to serve God through music ministry and performed

with many gospel greats such as James Cleveland, Inez Andrews, The Caravans,

Shirley Caesar, and Albertina Walker to name a few. He was honored in Chicago,

Illinois as a pioneer of gospel, symbolic of his many contributions to music.

In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by his five children, Marvin (Marsha)

Hightower, Shelia (Troy) Vanlier, Shaleta (Harold) Jackson, She-Eā€™-ma Washington,

and Artae (Alisa) Washington; his sister Anna Marie Jones; 16 grandchildren: Erica, Deidra, Erin, Lauren, Christopher, Jaylen, Zechariah, Amaya, Brendan, Portia, Lashawna, Vincent, Tyler,Hayden, Nikolas, and Joseph; a host of great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces,

nephews, cousins, in-laws, and spiritual children; and his loving dog Peek-a-boo.

In addition to his parents, Rev. Washington was preceded in death by three

brothers, Henry Lee Washington, Joseph Washington, and Joel Washington.

During his lifetime, Rev. Washington touched countless lives, which are too

numerous to name; however, his legacy of praise, love, and dedication to God will

continue to live on through everyone who knew and loved him.

The visitation will take place on Friday, April 12, 2019 from 5pm-8pm at Now Faith

Worship Center, 1112 Faith Street, Lexington 40505. The funeral will occur on

Saturday, April 13, 2019 at 11am at Anchor Baptist Church, 3601 Winthrop Drive,

Lexington 40514. The burial will follow at the Lexington Cemetery.

Although we had our differences, and they were many, I will never ever forget you! You were there for me in my time of need. I met you when I was 14 years old and joined the choir at that age!!!! I find myself just thinking about you still can not believe that you are gone.... I spoke on the phone with you a week before you passed. I was supposed to call you back but you passed. I would not be the woman that I am today had it not been for your teaching Rev. Washington you will forever live in my heart always..... I love you.....
