Joan Harriet Henry Davis

Joan Harriet Henry Davis passed away on June 7, 2019 at the age of 91 of natural causes. She is survived by three sons, twins Anthony Joe Davis of Shelbyville, TN and his wife, Edna Davis and Jerome Merritt Davis of Raleigh, NC and his wife Simmie Kastner and Timothy Davis of Lexington, KY and his wife Joy Morrison Davis, along with a sister, Ota Mae Campsey of Raleigh, NC and grandchildren Beth, Logan and Vivienne. All three of her sons support themselves working in theatre and theatre education.
Joan was born in Nashville,TN on October 9, 1927 to John Carson Henry and Eunice Bell Henry. In January, 1959 she married Joe Roma Davis, also of Nashville. That December she gave birth to twins Tony and Jerry and seven years later to Tim. All three were born at Saint Thomas Hospital in Nashville. In 1969 the family moved to a small farm in Murfreesboro, TN where her three sons would graduate from Riverdale High School and later Middle Tennessee State University.
Joan worked at Metropolitan Life Insurance Company and retired from their after 30 years. In the early 1950s she helped found the first fan club for a young guitarist just arrived in Nashville, Chet Atkins. They became long time friends and Joan met many pioneering country music artists as a result, including the Carter Family, Marty Robbins and a young Elvis Presley. She was a member of the Bethel United Methodist church in Leanna and the Farris Chapel United Methodist church in Murfreesboro. Joan was an avid NASCAR fan, and was a voracious reader, particularly of British mystery novels.
