Jerry Tye Reece, 85, died peacefully on Thursday, June 27, 2019 at the Lexington Country Place in Lexington KY.

He is preceded in death by his parents Alfred M. Reece and Princess (Johnson) Reece; step-mother Virginia (Nevins) Reece and wife Elizabeth (Petrey) Reece. He is survived by his son Tye Reece (Kelly Hagan); brother Tom Reece (Lynn); grandchildren Ellie and Owen Reece and many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends. Born March 5, 1934, he was a near lifelong resident of Lexington.  He would recount stories from his childhood like riding his bike across Lexington, sledding on his trumpet case in winter or playing at Clifton Pond.  After graduating from Lafayette High School, he attended Transylvania University on a music scholarship before graduating from Morehead State.  He served in the US Army Reserve as well as the Lexington Fire Department.  After marrying his wife Libby, he began his life long career with the KY Department of Labor, serving in multiple roles during that time.  A lover of music, he was a steadfast member of the choir at Crestwood Christian Church for over 30 years.  In his free time, he loved to attend Rotary functions, travel with his wife, golf with his friends, fly fish with his son, and follow the Wildcats.  However, perhaps his greatest joy was retiring to take care of his grandchildren.  A wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend.  He will be missed.

Visitation will be Tuesday, July 2, 2019 from 10 am to 12 pm, with a service to follow directly, at Crestwood Christian Church.  A graveside service at Lexington Cemetery will follow.  In lieu of flowers, donations to Crestwood Christian Church are appreciated.
