Dr. Charles T Ambrose

Dr. Charles T. Ambrose, 89, passed away on June 29, 2019. Dr. Ambrose was a Professor in the Department of Microbiology, Immunology and Molecular Genetics at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine. He was a graduate of Johns Hopkins Medical School and was a Research Immunologist at Harvard Medical School before coming to Kentucky. His library of 400 medical texts from the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries has formed the basis for numerous publications and presentations on medical history. His most recent publications focus on angiogenesis, aging and Alzheimer’s Disease. He was a brilliant scholar, an elegant writer, a world traveler, an admired teacher, a lover of dogs and a beloved friend of many people.
Funeral services will be private.
Dr. Ambrose will be missed. A true scholar and gentleman. My prayers are with his family.
I had the privilege of working with Dr. Ambrose for the past 14 years, assisting him with library research. He was one-of-a-kind and such a gentleman. I can't really put into words how much he meant to me, but I will miss him greatly. My heart is broken. The world has lost a great man. Rest in peace, Dr. Ambrose. We'll see you anon.
Dr. Ambrose was a dear colleague with interesting perspectives. His collection of historical medical texts will be a valuable resource for generations to come. His contributions to the department of Microbiology, Immunology and Molecular Genetics at the University of Kentucky are memorable. He was a great teacher and won many teaching awards in the UK Medical School.
