Lenora Rogers Perrine
Saturday 25th of November 1933 - Thursday 10th of October 2019
Lenora Rogers Perrine, of Lexington, KY, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, October 10, 2019. She was 85.
Born in Henderson, KY, in 1933, Lenora was the only child of Dr. John C. and Gertrude Culver Rogers. She graduated from Henderson County High School and attended Center College before transferring to the University of Kentucky where she was a member of Kappa Delta sorority. An education major, she returned to Henderson to teach high school English, and she also directed the school’s theatrical productions.
While she was in college, a mutual friend set up a blind date with pre-med student John Perrine, of Maysville, KY. The couple attended a Kentucky-Auburn football game, followed by many more dates, and got pinned during their senior year. They married in 1958, and Lenora continued to teach and work as an editorial assistant at the United Methodist Publishing House while John completed medical school at Vanderbilt.
His medical training took the couple to Jackson, MS, where they had two daughters before settling in Lexington for John to establish his practice, followed by the birth of their son. Lenora was a faithful member of Christ Church Cathedral, and she served with the Daughters of the King for two decades. She was an avid reader and enthusiastic fan of the Kentucky Wildcats basketball team, and she was known for her kindness, her gentle nature and her generous spirit.
Preceded in death by her parents, Lenora is survived by her devoted husband of 61 years, Dr. John Dixon Perrine; daughters Elizabeth Perrine Meeder, of Hilton Head Island, SC; and Jean Perrine (David) Moore, of Hendersonville, TN; son John Dixon (Cynthia) Perrine III, of San Luis Obispo, CA; and eight grandchildren: J.D. (Katherine) Meeder, of North Charleston, SC; Rebecca Meeder, of Atlanta, GA; Allison Meeder, of Clemson, SC; Chris Moore, of Huntsville, AL; Michael Moore of Knoxville, TN; and Shannon, Charlotte and Patrick Perrine, of San Luis Obispo, CA.
The family will receive visitors on Tuesday, October 15th 10:00 am - 12:00 pm at Christ Church Cathedral, 166 Market Street Lexington, KY, followed by a Celebration of Life at 12:00 pm. Private burial will be in Lexington Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Cathedral; the Salvation Army, 736 West Main St., Lexington, KY, 40508; or Bluegrass Care Navigators, 2312 Alexandria, Dr., Lexington, KY, 40504.
