Funeral Service
Alvin Benton (Ben) Broderson passed away on Thursday,
October 10 at age 79. Dr. Broderson grew up in Franklin, Kentucky. He attended
The University of Kentucky where he earned a BS and MS in Mechanical
Engineering and a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering. Later, he earned another MS
degree in Philosophy and Theology from Asbury Theological Seminary.
While at The University of Kentucky, he worked for five
years in NASA-sponsored research on the effects of space flight at the Wenner
Gren Research Lab. That experience led to a four-year career in the U.S. Air
Force, where he worked on the Manned Orbiting Laboratory project.
He was honorably discharged from the Air Force upon that
project’s cancellation and began a 40-year career as an environmental and
consulting engineer for a wide variety of projects and companies, including his
own “Spectrum Engineering.” He also taught at Asbury Theological Seminary and
St. Catharine College, on subjects from Physics, Thermodynamics, Acoustics,
Logic, Philosophy and Statistics. He authored over 50 technical papers and
publications.
He and his wife, Ann attended Centenary United Methodist
Church in Lexington.
Dr. Broderson was preceded in death by his brothers Lee, Joe and John Paul, and his daughter, Elizabeth Benton. He is survived by his wife Elizabeth Ann, his son, Steven, daughter-in-law Julie and grandchildren Alaina and Maura.
Services Monday at Centenary United Methodist Church:
Visitation from 9:30-11am, Funeral at 11am (2800 Tates Creek Rd., Lexington, KY
40502). Burial to follow at Lexington Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations
to the Salvation Army.
