Sandra Lee Barrett, 70, passed away peacefully in the afternoon of Saturday, February 22, 2020. Sandy was born to the late Charles William and Helen Louise (Massingale) Bietz in Lexington, Kentucky, on July 1, 1949.

Sandy was wed to William Ray Barrett on August 3, 1973. Together, they celebrated 35 years of marriage until his passing in 2008.

Sandy was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend who was known for her beautiful and joyful smile. Sandy was a daddy’s girl who had a one of a kind personality. She had a huge, humble heart and hearty hugs only a granny can give. Sandy loved spending time with her husband sitting around the kitchen table, watching movies, celebrating Christmas with her family, and rescuing and caring for the many beloved cats she had throughout her life. Sandy was also a courageous fighter and survivor. She courageously fought and survived breast cancer and skin cancer for two decades.

Sandy is survived by her son, Richard (Angela) McDowell; brother, Charles (Nancy) Bietz, Jr.; sister, Debra Bietz; grandsons, Nicholas Lee McDowell, Joshua Daniel Bartley; granddaughter, Mashawnda Nicole Bartley; great-grandson Keydon Bartley, Ryder Bartley, Silas Richard Bartley; great-granddaughter, Angelina Bartley; nephew Gary (Vicki) Bietz; great-nieces, Kelsey Newland, Britney Bietz, and great-great-niece, Khloe Davis.

With great gratitude, the family wishes to thank Sandy’s best friend and caregiver, Cathy Tew; friend and caregiver, Debra Stone; dear friend Crystal Harris, and all her many special friends at her living community.

The family will receive friends for visitation on Thursday, February 27th, from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm at Milward-Broadway, located at 159 N. Broadway, Lexington. Funeral service will commence at 12:00 pm with Rev. Mickey Hyder officiating. Interment in Lexington Cemetery will follow the funeral ceremony.

In honor of her legacy, memorial donations may be directed to The Hearing and Speech Center of Lexington, <https://www.hscky.org/support>. Donations may also be directed to the Lexington Humane Society for the many cats that need foster homes, <https://www.lexingtonhumanesociety.org/>.
