Ruth Grimes Gillespie

Ruth passed peacefully at UK Good Samaritan Hospital.  She was a resident of Sayre Christian Village, which she called “home” and enjoyed being involved there with care providers, staff, and volunteers (including her favorite four legged visitors).  A long time member of Centenary United Methodist Church, Ruth was embraced by her steadfast church family over the years.   A 1956 graduate from the University of Kentucky, Ruth received her B.A. in Romance Languages with a minor in music and voice.  Employed by the Lexington VA as a nursing assistant, she was also an avid “Cats” fan, passionate about Disney World, and traveled with friends over the years.  Ruth especially enjoyed being with special friends who lovingly called her “family”.  Her spirited personality, coupled with her laughing smile, will long be remembered.

A native of Lexington, Ruth is preceded in death by her parents, Arie Quint Gillespie and Ruth Grimes Gillespie.  A private service will be held at The Lexington Cemetery with Rev. David Thomas and other members of her dedicated pastoral family presiding. Friends wanting to honor Ruth’s memory may contribute on her behalf to The Methodist Children’s Home.

Ruth was a second cousin on my father's side (her mother & my father were cousins). She would spend some time with family in Pendleton County (near Lenoxburg) as a child. Her devotion to her faith clearly showed in her peaceful disposition and acceptance of her later years. Bless you, Ruth Grimes Gillespie.
