Dr. Alfred Edward Coleman Sr.

Dr. Alfred E. Coleman, Sr., 82, of Lexington, husband of the late Eleanor Proctor Coleman, passed away Wednesday, January 9, 2018 at Central Baptist Hospital. He was born on March 4, 1936 in Whitesburg, Kentucky and was the son of the late Otto and Elizabeth Johnson Coleman. Dr. Coleman was a retired Colonel of the US Army. He was an Oral Surgeon of Dentistry during the Vietnam War. After the Army, Dr. Coleman went back to school and became a professor and subsequently was Head of the Dental Residency Program at Creighton University. He was a member of The Sons of the American Revolution, and a member of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd.
Survivors include one son, Alfred Edward Coleman, Jr.; two daughters, Laura Coleman (Bart) Young and Susan Coleman (Greg) Horn; five grandchildren, Emma Jane Horn, Wiley Coleman Horn, Madeline Elizabeth Young, Willa Catherine Young and William Lucas Young, and a brother; Reford (Helen) Coleman.
The Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 14 at Milward – Southland Drive in Lexington. Burial will follow at Lexington Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday, January 13 from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. also at Milward – Southland.
